Rs 2.13 crore for 255 patients under Karunya: Mani

Thiruvananthapuram: Financial assistance of Rs 2.13 crore was distributed to 255 patients under the Karunya Benevolent Fund Scheme in Kerala, Finance Minister KM Mani said today.

The noble health scheme was aimed at financing treatment expenses of poor sections in the society from the revenue earned from Karunya Lottery tickets of the State Lottery Department, he said in a statement here.

Though treatment for every ailment was available in the state today, the cost of treatment was proving to be unbearable to lower income and even middle income families, he added.

Under the scheme, assistance of maximum Rs two lakh would also be given to a single family based on unavoidable circumstances, he said. (UNI)
