Power tariff: Revised rates to be implemented from July
Thiruvananthapuram: The KSEB will implement the revised power tariff from the month of July itself. The board will soon issue the order on the same. The board also began the revamp of billing software to accommodate new charges in bills . In the bill, which would be issued on July last, the bill for June would be in old rate and for July in new rate. For all slabs, this month, there would be an extra burden of 35 %.
The State Electricity Regulatory Commission has announced the hike in power tariff on Thursday. The hike is applicable to all section of consumers. An order has been issued on the same showing power hike from July 1.
Till 500 units, the present slab system will continue .As per the new tariff, the fixed charge for single phase would be Rs. 20 and for three phase it would be Rs 60.
The new hike for each slab per unit
0 to 40 units the hike is Rs 1.50
41 units – 80 units-Rs 1.90
81 units to 120 units-Rs 2.20
121 units to 150 units-Rs 2.40
151 units to 200 units-Rs 3.10
200 units to 300 units-Rs 3.50
300 units to 500 units-Rs 4.60 and
for use above 500 units its is Rs 6.50 per each unit.
There will be higher tariff for electricity consumption during peak hours. The time-of-the-day (ToD) metering service will be placed to rein in an unprecedented rise in peak-hour domestic consumption, sources said.
According to KSEB's estimates, storage level in reservoirs had come down to 16.43 per cent of their capacity by last week.
This showed that the storage, kept up by abundant rainfall brought by the monsoon in catchment areas, is 24.18 per less
than last year. As per KSEB's estimates, inflow into reservoirs since June first week has been equivalent to 733 million units, far short of 1702 million units last year.
Hydro-electric stations account for the lion's share of 2040.8 MW of power generated in the state out of its total installed capacity of 2857.59 MW. Even now, there is a demand- supply gap, which is met by drawals from the central grid and
other outside sources. .
