Law and order situation under control, says ADGP.
KANNUR:  Tension prevailed in the district for the second day also following the arrest of CPI (M) District Secretary P Jayarajan in Abdul Shukkoor murder case yesterday.

He has been lodged at Kannur central jail. Meanwhile, a team of CRPF Rapid Action Force (RAF) led by Commandant N Sasikumar reached here at early hours and reported before the ADGP Rajesh Dhiwan, who has been camping here for the last four days. ADGP said the law and order situation was under control and patrolling had been intensified since yesterday night.

He said the central force had been kept only as a reserve and the law and order situation would be maintained by Kerala police. For this additional police, including Malabar special police (MSP) and Kerala Armed Police (KAP) from neighbouring districts had been deployed at various parts of the district. He said the Central force was camping at Mangattuparamaba KAP barracks and their service would be used when needed.

To a question about the ransacking of party offices of UDF yesterday, the ADGP said the prime duty of the police was to maintain law and order and it was not possible to protect every party office. The first priority was to provide security to the people, he added. To another question, he said the central force would camp here for the next three days and the extension of camping would be subject to law and order.
