Kerala to hike bus fare, electricity charge
Kasargod: The Kerala government would be compelled to hike bus fares in the state in the wake of steep increase in diesel prices announced by the Centre recently, Transport and Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed said today.Talking to reporters here, he said the Fare Revision Committee headed by Justice Ramachandran Nair had been asked to study the issue and submit a report by September 30.
The Cabinet would take a final decision on the issue by October 10, he said.
The loss incurred by the public sector Kerala State Road Transport Corporation per month would go up to Rs 68 crore from the present Rs 60 crore following the diesel price hike by Rs five per litre, he said.
The government would also contemplate hike in electricity charge utilised above 300 units, he added. (UNI)
