Pinarayi Vijayan seeks PM intervention in flight cancellation
Thiruvananthapuram: CPI(M) Kerala Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan today sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention against the frequent cancellation of Air India flights to the Gulf region from the State.
In a press release here, he demanded that the Centre make alternative arrangements against frequent cancellation of international flights from Kerala.
Alleging that as many as 168 Air India services have been cancelled in month from the State, he said an Air India office in Kochi, opened during the previous LDF regime, was also closed down by the company.
The services have been cancelled under the pressure from a union minister from Uttar Pradesh, he alleged.
In a statement here yesterday, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the action by Air India had doubled the miseries faced by Gulf-bound passengers.
The CPM leader alleged that the cancellations of international flights without prior notice was causing hardships to passengers. (UNI)
