Two blasts rock Damascus, casualties feared
BEIRUT: Two blasts targeting military buildings rocked central Damascus Wednesday, a witness and Syrian Television reported. The blast in the upscale Abu Roumaneh neighbourhood was aimed at an Air Force headquarters that commands warplane strikes against rebel positions across Syria. Smoke from the attack was billowing across the city, a witness told DPA. The neighbourhood includes several Western and Arab embassies. The explosion in Ummayad Square targeted and set fire to another military headquarters. The complex is metres away from the offices of Syrian state television. Security forces cordoned off the areas and ambulance sirens were heard throughout the city but there were no immediate reports of deaths or injuries. |
